The Outdoor Classroom June 23-24, 2006 SCIT2024 101054Q This workshop is designed to help participants better understand what goes into the planning and implementing of an outdoor classroom. Topics will include an overview of suggested designs found in the Texas Science Facilities Manual, a field trip to a working outdoor classroom, and some hands on experiments that can be used in the early stages of getting and outdoor classroom started. This workshop is specifically designed for teachers K-8 interested in utilizing the outdoor classroom for science instruction. SPECIAL NOTE: The bus for the the field trip will leave on June 23rd at 8:00. Participates are encouraged to come early so that we may depart on time. This year's field trip is scheduled for the Texas Fresh Water Fishery Center at Athens, TX. A box lunch and bottled water will be provided for lunch. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing. If you sunburn easily you may want to bring sunscreen as you will be outside during part of the day. The purpose of the fieldtrip will be two fold. One is to acquaint teachers with an excellent hands-on outdoor classroom facility within our area. The other is to explore the positive educational aspects of the facility and to discover some negative aspects of designing, building, and maintaining an outdoor classroom facility. Cost $149
